What you will need
Before you begin, it helps to have the following to hand:
A valid government-issued photo ID (passport, visa, or driving licence)
Access to your UK bank account (if applicable) for the open banking step
Any supporting documents relevant to your circumstances (payslips, employment contract, tax return, or proof of funding)
Details of the property you are applying for, including the monthly rent and contract length
If you do not yet have a confirmed property, you can still apply for pre-approval.
How the application works
Step 1: Create your account. Register on the Rentmigo platform and begin your application. The process is fully digital and can be completed in around 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 2: Verify your identity. Upload your government-issued ID and complete a short biometric check (a selfie). This is handled securely by our identity verification partner, Plaid.
Step 3: Complete your financial assessment. Depending on your circumstances, this may include connecting your bank account via open banking, uploading supporting documents, or both. The platform will guide you through exactly what is needed.
Step 4: Receive your outcome. Your application is assessed against our underwriting criteria. You will typically receive a decision within 48 hours.
Step 5: Agreement and payment. If approved, you will be asked to sign a tripartite (three-way) agreement between you, your landlord, and Rentmigo. Your guarantee fee is a single one-off payment of up to one month's rent, based on your individual application and assessment outcome. The guarantee is not issued until payment is complete.
Step 6: Your guarantee is issued. Once the agreement is signed and payment is received, your rent guarantee is issued. You and your landlord each receive a guarantee certificate confirming the coverage in place.
If a Responsible Third Party is supporting your application
A Responsible Third Party (RTP) is someone, typically a parent, family member, or other trusted individual, who provides financial evidence to strengthen your application. They are not legally liable for your rent. Their role is simply to demonstrate additional financial support.
If an RTP is supporting your application, you will need the following from them before you begin:
Their full name, email address, and phone number
Three months of their bank statements
You will upload these documents yourself as part of your application. The documents are verified through our fraud detection and document checks, so please ensure they are clear, unedited, and in their original format.
It is worth speaking to your Responsible Third Party in advance so they are prepared to provide what is needed.
What if I do not have a property yet?
You can complete steps 1 to 4 without a confirmed tenancy. If approved, you will receive a pre-approval certificate that you can share with prospective landlords.
